New Web site offers one-stop shopping for Midwest political and government news
-- MidwestPolitics.com launches as Midwestern political news portal --

With crucial nomination contests approaching in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio, and the 2008 presidential election now less than 10 months away, six independent political and government news sites from across the Midwest have teamed up to launch MidwestPolitics.com.

The site is a cooperative venture between sites based in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Its goal is to provide readers with background and coverage of the crucial Midwest battleground in the months leading up to the 2008 presidential election.

Several of the states involved were key to the 2004 campaign strategies of George W. Bush and John Kerry and the region is again expected to be a frequent stopping point for the eventual '08 nominees. Already, Iowa and Michigan have proven to be important waypoints in the race to this year's nomination, and the next six weeks will see the other states hold their own contests.

MidwestPolitics.com currently features a constantly updating scroll of headlines from each of the member sites, plus a primary calendar and links to the individual sites. More features are planned as the general election approaches.
